In Louisiana, the District Attorney is the legal counsel for the Police Jury and the School Board which two governing bodies are vital to the progress of a Parish.

Michael Hughes, the 1st Assistant, is assigned to represent these two bodies and is present at all of the regularly scheduled meetings.
